Filled with scenes of gore and violence, the trailer of Viduthalai Part 2, a sequel to Vetri Maaran’s 2023 crime thriller, delves deeper into Vijay Sethupathi’s extremist leader Perumal’s wrath and love story.
Dropped by RS Infotainment on Youtube, the two-minute-40-second-long trailer begins by showing a young Vijay, who grew up watching the upper caste meting out violence against the weak. Institutionalised violence from police also appears in the trailer, which follows the uprising of the oppressed against those in power. From the crowd of one such oppressed class of people rose Vijay’s Perumal, who later goes on to become the leader of the extremist group Makkal Padai.
The trailer introduces Manju Warrier, who plays an activist and Perumal’s love interest in the film. Soori reprises his role as Constable Kumaresan in the film, which also brings back Gautam Menon, Rajiv Menon and Chetan.
The first instalment followed DSP Sunil Menon’s (Gautham Vasudev Menon) hunt to capture Vaathiyaar Perumal (Vijay), leader of the extremist group Makkal Padai.
The music for the sequel has been composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Viduthalai Part 2 is produced by Elred Kumar.
Part 1 of the crime thriller, featuring Bhavani Sre, Rajiv Menon and Ilavarasu alongside Vijay, was released theatrically on March 31 last year. According to industry data-tracking site Sacnilk, Viduthalai Part 1 earned Rs 53 crore worldwide.
Directed by Vetri Maaran, who has helmed the original film, Viduthalai Part 2 is slated to release in theatres on December 20.
