Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail, starring Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankr, is set to be released in China this year after it turned out to be a sleeper hit at the domestic box office.

Vidhu Vinod has expressed his excitement about bringing the film to the Chinese audiences. “As a filmmaker, I believe storytelling transcends borders. Bringing 12th Fail to China is not just about reaching a new audience, but about sharing universal human experiences that resonate regardless of geography,” he recently said in a statement.

The filmmaker also said since 12th Fail is based on a story of honest people, common folk everywhere would be able to relate to the struggles and perseverance of the characters. “I’m excited to see how Chinese audiences connect with it,” he added.

Based on the 2019 book of the same name by Anurag Pathak, 12th Fail follows the life and struggles of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma. The movie’s compelling narrative and outstanding performances are expected to strike a chord with Chinese viewers.

12th Fail was theatrically released in India on October 27, 2023, and is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
