A bearded John Abraham comes to the rescue of Sharvari Wagh’s Vedaa in her fight against a draconian system in Nikkhil Advani’s upcoming action thriller Vedaa teaser, also featuring Tamannaah Bhatia, dropped by the makers on Tuesday.
The one-minute-34-second-long teaser begins with Sharvari introducing her character Vedaa, an aspiring boxer. “Surname, status, identity…no one cares. To most, we are like dirt beneath the soles of their feet,” she says, expressing how her social status stands as a hindrance in her way to fulfilling her dreams.
Even though she stands at a disadvantage, Vedaa clarifies in the next scene that she does not want a protector. Instead, she wants someone who can turn the soles of her feet into “unbreakable weapons”.
The camera then pans to John, who mentions that his way is to wage wars, and not get involved in bickerings and fights. In the teaser, he can be seen training Vedaa in the boxing ring and helping her fight injustice.
Tamannaah Bhatia also appears in the teaser seemingly as Abraham’s love interest. Paatal Lok actor Abhishek Banerjee features as a politician who poses a threat to Abraham and Sharvari, hinting at the power dynamics and challenges faced by the duo.
“Maro naam Vedaa…Ye waqt anyaay sehneka nahin, uske khilaaf ladne ka hai! Kya aap taiyyar hain?,” Sharvari wrote alongside the teaser shared on Instagram.
Sharing the teaser on Instagram, Abraham quoted a line said by his character in the video. “Jhagadna nahi aata mujhe, sirf jung ladni aati hai,” he wrote.
“It is the story of an uprising, of challenging a draconian system. It is the story of a young woman who fought back, steered and championed by the one man she believed was her saviour, who became her weapon. It is the story of a man who found himself in helping Vedaa find justice,” the description of the teaser shared on YouTube reads.
Touted as “a story of bravery, of the power of one,” Vedaa is written by The Buckingham Murders and Mission Majnu writer Aseem Arrora. Produced by Zee Studios in collaboration with John Abraham, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Minnaskshi Das, Vedaa is slated to release in theatres on July 12.
