Actress Tamannaah Bhatia on Friday said that her upcoming film Vedaa, starring John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh in lead roles, will offer a new perspective to action films in India.

“Don’t judge Vedaa by its cover - Trust me when I say, it’s more than just an action film,” the 34-year-old actress wrote alongside the trailer of the film on Instagram. Heaping praise on John, Tamannaah added, “This time, he’s telling a different kind of story through action, showing just how deeply this genre can convey meaningful cinematic experiences today.”

The Jailer actress said that although her contribution to the film is “modest”, she is excited to have teamed up with director Nikkhil Advani, John, Sharvari and Abhishek Banerjee. “Our film promises to bring a fresh perspective to action films in our country, and I feel everyone would love to experience this new story on the big screen,” she mentioned.

Nikkhil last directed the 2021 film Batla House starring Ravi Kishan and Mrunal Thakur and his return to the director’s chair after six years adds “yet another layer of anticipation to the film”, Tamannaah said.

About Sharvari, who plays a lower-caste oppressed woman determined to fight against the draconian system, Tamannaah wrote, “I can’t miss on mentioning @sharvari here and how I just can’t wait for y’all to see her kill it on the big screen yet again.”

Vedaa revolves around John Abraham’s ex-army officer Major Abhimanyu Kanwar who turns mentor for Sharvari Wagh’s Vedaa, a lower-caste oppressed woman, to help her seek justice. Abhishek Banerjee plays the antagonist, a man in power who inflicts pain on the poor. While Tamannaah Bhatia plays John’s love interest, Mouni Roy appears as a dancer.

“It is the story of an uprising, of challenging a draconian system. It is the story of a young woman who fought back, steered and championed by the one man she believed was her saviour, who became her weapon. It is the story of a man who found himself in helping Vedaa find justice,” reads the description of the trailer shared on YouTube recently.

Directed by Nikkhil Advani, Vedaa is written by The Buckingham Murders and Mission Majnu writer Aseem Arrora. Produced by Zee Studios in collaboration with John Abraham, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Minnaskshi Das, Vedaa is slated to release in theatres on August 15.
