Estranged spies, played by Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, reunite after years to protect their young daughter Nadia in the second trailer of Raj and DK’s Citadel: Honey Bunny, dropped by Prime Video on Tuesday.
The two-minute-23-second-long trailer delves deeper into the story of Varun’s character, Bunny, a skilled stuntman who once enlisted a struggling actress named Honey, portrayed by Samantha, for a side gig. This seemingly innocuous gig spirals them into a high-stakes world filled with espionage, action and betrayal.
The trailer opens with Varun stepping out of a car as he reflects on the moral complexities of espionage, stating that spies often knowingly make questionable choices out of loyalty. The camera then cuts to Samantha, who is seen fiercely protecting their young daughter, Nadia, as she single-handedly fights off a pair of intruders at her home. Nadia is destined to grow into the formidable spy played by Priyanka Chopra in the original Citadel series, setting the stage for an intriguing connection between the two shows.
After going to several auditions and failing to get a role, Samantha came across Varun, who trained her to become a spy agent. When their past catches up to them after several years of staying apart, the two spies reunite. As Bunny strives to reconnect with their daughter, Nadia, he joins forces with Honey once again, determined to protect their child at all costs.
Citadel: Honey Bunny is the Indian instalment of the globally acclaimed action-thriller franchise Citadel, originally starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
The series is produced by D2R Films, Amazon MGM Studios and the Russo Brothers’ AGBO.
In addition to Varun and Samantha, Citadel: Honey Bunny stars Kay Kay Menon, Simran, Saqib Saleem, Sikandar Kher, Soham Majumdar, Shivankit Parihar and Kashvi Majmundar in key roles.
Citadel: Honey Bunny is slated to hit Prime Video on November 7.
