Varisu

Sun TV on Wednesday unveiled the trailer of Tamil star Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming family entertainer Varisu. Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, the also stars Rashmika Mandanna, R Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Prakash Raj, Shaam, Srikanth, Khushbu, Yogi Babu, Jayasudha, Sangeetha Krish, Samyuktha Shanmughanathan and Nandini Rai among others.

The two-minute-27-second-long trailer tells the story of a happy joint family. Things soon start to go wrong for them when a business rival tries to take down every member of the family. As the family gets shattered, Vijay’s character has to toil to bring it back together with his brain and brawn.

Varisu is slated for a Pongal release.

Evil Dead Rise

Warner Bros. dropped the trailer for its upcoming American supernatural horror film Evil Dead Rise on Thursday. Written and directed by Lee Cronin, the film serves as the fifth instalment in the Evil Dead franchise. It stars Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher and Mia Challis.

The two-minute-24-second-long trailer tells a twisted tale of two estranged sisters (played by Sutherland and Sullivan), whose reunion is cut short by the rise of flesh-possessing demons. The sisters soon engage in a primal battle for survival as they face the most nightmarish version of family imaginable.

Evil Dead Rise will arrive in cinemas on April 20.

JUNG_E

Netflix released the official trailer of its upcoming stylised South Korean sci-fi film JUNG_E. Written and directed by Yeon Sang-ho, the movie stars Kang Soo-yeon, Kim Hyun-joo and Ryu Kyung-soo. It is the final film appearance of Kang Soo-yeon, who passed away in May 2022.

In the two-minute-nine-second-long trailer, we see a modern civilisation in 2194, where technological advancement has propelled artificial intelligence to new heights. Humans also established settlements in space. A new AI-enabled combat warrior is created for a better and safer future, but it causes a rampage.

JUNG_E will be streaming on Netflix from January 20, 2023.

The 1619 Project

Hulu on Wednesday late evening shared the official teaser of its upcoming documentary series The 1619 Project. Helmed by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones and Onyx Collective, the series will explore the legacy of slavery in modern-day America.

The one-minute-eight-second-long teaser shows glimpses of America’s history by placing the consequences of slavery and the contributions of Black Americans at the very centre of the national narrative.
