Koel Mallick returned to the big screen after a gap of two years with Arindam Sil’s Jongole Mitin Mashi (2023), and stole the show in this blend of suspense and action. In the film, Mitin Mashi goes on a vacation with her family to the Saranda forest. There she comes to know of a poaching racket of elephants and swings into her investigative mode. Koel then travelled to Rajasthan this year for the shoot of Sonar Kellay Jawker Dhan, a film that pays tribute to Ray’s Sonar Kella.

Having wrapped up the shoot of the third film in the Jawker Dhan series on Tuesday morning, Koel gets ready to face the camera as Mitin Mashi for the third film of the franchise from today. Directed by Arindam Sil, Ekti Khunir Sandhaney Mitin stars Koel, Shaheb Chatterjee, Madhurima Basak, Koneenica Banerjee, Subhrajit Datta, Anasua Majumdar, Roshni Bhattacharya, Lekha Chatterjee and more.

“It feels awesome to be back as Mitin once again... it is such an inspiring character, a very strong-willed woman who is indomitable absolutely... when she starts investigating a case, she knows that she is going to win. This is the first time Mitin is investigating a murder mystery. There are a lot of suspects, and this time Mitin is way more layered. There is a lot of humour and humanity in it. As a person, Mitin is very compassionate... she has her head and heart in the right place. The story is very gripping and thrilling. With every film, different sides of Mitin are being revealed. The new Mitin film has a mature storyline. It’ll be way more fun to play Mitin this time,” said Koel.

Produced by Surinder Films, Ekti Khunir Sandhaney Mitin will be shot in Calcutta. “The audience will get to see the city in a new light. The film explores different aspects of the city. There are many layers to the story. It is more intense. It is a story of a kidnap and murder... there are relationships at its core. Also, the story is largely connected with classical music. The scale of the film is huge, and we will shoot it accordingly. The story really appealed to me... there’s an array of characters in the film. Mitin will be more sharp and intelligent in this film,” said Arindam Sil.

Lekha plays Tupur, Mitin’s niece and assistant. “This is very special for me. My character is very bright and fearless like her mashi,” said Lekha.

For Koel, Mitin Mashi films have always been very special. “When I did the first Mitin Mashi film in 2019, the response was fantastic. The same goes for the second one. So there is extra responsibility this time,” said Koel, who firmly believes that Mitin is a winner.

“When it comes to the spirit of winning, I see Mitin in so many households. Mitin might rustle up a machher jhol and fish fry. She has tremendous intuition... she is much more than an investigator. Mitin is very compassionate, kind and she stands for justice. She cannot stand anything that is wrong. She has an enormous willpower,” added Koel.

“I am blessed to get the opportunity to work with Arindam Sil and to share the screen with the forever gorgeous and beautiful Koel,” said Madhurima, who was recently seen in the Addatimes series Lady Queen Gents Parlour. “I’d like to do good work that is soul-satisfying,” said Madhurima.
