Two decades of Ghilli: Vijay and Trisha Krishnan-starrer to re-release in theatres on April 20

The sports action drama helmed by Dharani also featured Prakash Raj, Ashish Vidyarthi, Dhamu and Mayilsamy in key roles

Vijay and Trisha Krishnan’s 2004 sports action-drama Ghilli is set to arrive in theatres again on April 20 to mark the 20th anniversary of its initial release, the makers, Mega Surya Production, announced on Wednesday.

Posting a picture of Vijay and Trisha from the movie, the production house tweeted, “Get ready to witness THALAPATHY @actorvijay sir cult blockbuster on big screens once again! Let's celebrate the massiest role of Namma Vijay Anna in theatres this 20th April! ”.

Helmed by Dharani, Ghilli boasts an ensemble cast including Prakash Raj, Ashish Vidyarthi, Dhamu, Mayilsamy, Janaki Sabesh, Nancy Jennifer, Nagendra Prasad, Ponnambalam and Tanikella Bharani.The music for the film was composed by Vidyasagar. A remake of Mahesh Babu’s Telugu hit Okkadu, Ghilli went on to gross a whopping Rs 50 crore at the box office.

Vijay was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Leo alongside Trisha Krishnan and Sanjay Dutt. The actor, who recently took a plunge in politics, is gearing up for his next venture — Venkat Prabhu's The Greatest of All Time. Meenakshi Chaudhary will be the leading lady opposite Vijay in this action saga, where Prabhu Deva, Prasanth, Sneha, and Azmal will also play pivotal roles.
