Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell’s storm chasers strive to predict and possibly tame tornadoes amidst an unprecedented phenomenon of multiple storms converging over central Oklahoma in the first trailer of Lee Isaac Chung’s upcoming disaster epic Twisters, dropped by Universal Pictures during the Super Bowl Sunday night on February 12.

The one-minute-59-second-long trailer begins with Jone’s Kate Cooper abandoning a car and fleeing with her friends while trying to survive an immensely powerful tornado. This devastating incident during her college years prompts her to accept a less challenging job in New York – studying storm patterns on screens safely inside her four-walled office.

However, “she is lured back to the open plains by her friend, Javi (played by Anthony Ramos),” reads the official synopsis on YouTube. There, she comes across Powell’s Tyler, who calls himself Tornado Wrangler. “If you feel it, chase it” is Tyler’s only resounding motto and the subsequent clips capture his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew.

“You thought you could destroy a tornado,” says Tyler to Kate, who replies, “We never had a chance.” Determined to provide Kate a chance, Tyler teaches her to “ride” her fears as they track a particularly fierce storm that uproots electric wires, overturns vehicles and topples structures.

Together, they encounter the full force of nature’s fury as twin columns of rotating air threaten to wipe out lives.

A standalone sequel to the 1996 disaster drama Twister, Twisters also features Brandon Perea, Sasha Lane, Daryl McCormack, Kiernan Shipka, Nik Dodani, and Maura Tierney in important roles.

Produced by Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, Twisters is slated to hit theatres on July 19.
