Daisy Edgar-Jones’s Kate Cooper teams up with social media superstar Tyler Owens, played by Glen Powell, to “destroy” a once-in-a-generation tornado wreaking havoc on the open plains of Oklahoma in the second trailer of the upcoming dystopian adventure-thriller Twisters.

Dropped by the makers on Wednesday, the three-minute-six-second-long trailer begins with a woman watching a horse riding show along with other people. Soon, things take a dark turn as a devastating tornado destroys the racecourse.

To test a groundbreaking new weather tracking system, Kate and other NASA officials are brought to Oklahoma in the midst of the storm. After Kate crosses paths with Tyler, a “tornado wrangler” who has built a reputation for posting his storm-chasing adventures online, her job takes an interesting turn.

Kate, instead of working with her team of officials, joins Tyler and his group of storm chasers on adventures while experimenting with the tracking system on her own. “We don’t need PhDs or fancy tech…sometimes, the old ways are better than the new,” Glen’s Tyler says in the trailer.

The video ends with Kate, Tyler and the storm chasers coming face to face with a twin tornado that is on the verge of combining.

Twisters is based on Jan de Bont’s 1996 film Twister, which revolved around a pair of storm chasers who risked their lives to test an experimental weather tracking system. It starred Bill Paxton, Helen Hunt and Philip Seymour Hoffman in the lead roles.

Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, Twisters also stars Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, David Corenswet and Harry Hadden-Paton. It is produced by Frank Marshall (Jurassic and Indiana Jones franchises) and by Patrick Crowley (Jurassic and Bourne franchises).

With a screenplay by The Revenant writer Mark L. Smith, adapted from a story by Joseph Kosinski and based on characters created by Michael Crichton and Anne Marie Crichton, Twisters is slated to hit theatres globally on July 19.
