Singer Shreya Ghoshal has dropped the official music video for Tumi Bondhu Aaj Shunbe, a song she sang for the first time at her Kolkata concert last month as a mark of protest against the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in city-based RG Kar Hospital.

The videos of Shreya’s performance at the Netaji Indoor Stadium went viral on social media, adding to the appeal for justice and the growing chorus seeking a safer society for women.

Arna Seal has penned the lyrics for the song composed by Shantanu Moitra.

“Tumi Bondhu Aaj Shunbe is a deeply personal song for me, one that carries the weight of countless stories of pain and resilience. Sung in my mother tongue Bangla, this piece is a cry of anguish, anger, and an unyielding call for change, addressing the brutal realities of rape and violence that women continue to face worldwide,” Shreya wrote, sharing the video.

“The song amplifies the voices that have long been silenced, pushing us to confront the darkness that surrounds us and urging for a brighter, safer future. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of broken dreams, suffocated stories, and the resilience that refuses to be stifled. It’s a call to action, a reminder to listen, to feel, and to stand up for change. Join us in this movement for awareness and transformation—because every cry, every voice deserves to be heard,” she further said.

“This song holds a special place in my heart, and I hope it resonates with yours. Please watch, feel, and share. Together, let’s keep the conversation alive and make the world a better place, for her,” Shreya signed off.

The protest song came shortly after popular singer Arijit Singh released Aar Kobey, which translates to ‘if not now, then when’. Arijit’s song became an anthem of sorts in the protests across Kolkata following the tragedy.
