Rahi Anil Barve’s Tumbbad, which re-released in theatres last week, has crossed the lifetime collections of the film during its original release in 2018.
After an impressive first week, Tumbbad re-release amassed Rs 13.44 crore nett, including an opening weekend total of Rs 7.34 crore nett. As per the makers, the supernatural horror film collected Rs 3.04 crore nett on second Friday, taking the total collection to Rs 16.44 crore nett.
In 2018, Tumbbad had a lifetime collection of Rs 13.5 crore nett.
The Sohum Shah-starrer witnessed a remarkable jump of nearly 100 per cent in box office collections on its second Friday, fuelled by National Cinema Day. Written by Mitesh Shah, Prasad, Rahi Anil Barve and Anand Gandhi, Tumbbad is set in a village cursed with eternal rain after its residents built a temple for Hastar, the demon god. The narrative centres around a man’s pursuit of a cursed ancestral treasure.
Tumbbad is facing competition from Kareena Kapoor-starrer The Buckingham Murders at the box office. The Hansal Mehta-directed murder mystery minted Rs 8.2 crore nett during its eight days of theatrical run. Siddhant Chaturvedi and Malavika Mohanan-starrer Yudhra, which released in theatres this Friday, earned Rs 4.52 crore nett on its opening day.
Meanwhile, Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Stree 2 is inching towards the Rs 600-crore mark at the domestic box office. The total earnings of the Amar Kaushik-helmed comedy horror film now stands at Rs 595 crore nett.
