Actress Triptii Dimri on Thursday announced that her 2018 romantic drama Laila Majnu will be re-released in theatres across the country on August 9.

“Humari kahani likhi hui hai (Our story is written). Lailamajnu is making a comeback after six years... This is nothing short of a dream come true and it's only because of your love for our film. Thank you. See you in theatres on August 9, 2024,” wrote Triptii on Instagram, sharing clips set to the film’s title track.

Also starring Avinash Tiwary, the Sajid Ali directorial follows the story of two star-crossed lovers, Laila (Triptii) and Qais Bhatt (Avinash), who are united in death. The film, which marks Triptii’s Bollywood debut, also features Sumit Kaul as Ibban, Laila’s abusive husband.

Originally released on September 7, 2018, Laila Majnu was a commercial failure, earning only Rs 3.20 crore against a budget of Rs 10 crore at the domestic box office, according to industry data-tracking site Sacnilk.

Last month, Avinash had announced that Laila Majnu would be re-released in theatres in Srinagar on August 2. “With love for Kashmir, Laila Majnu releases in @inoxsrinagar on the 2nd of Aug. The crew waits to welcome you to finally watch in theatre,” he had written in a social media post.

A modern-day adaptation of the Layla and Majnun folklore, the film is written and presented by Imtiaz Ali. It is produced by Ali’s former wife Preety and Ekta Kapoor.

Catapulted to fame after her performance in Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, Triptii has once again become the talk of the town for her sizzling onscreen chemistry with Vicky Kaushal in Anand Tiwari’s latest romcom Bad Newz.

The 30-year-old actress will next be seen in Anees Bazmee’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 alongside Kartik Aaryan and Vidya Balan. Produced under the banner of T-Series Films, the horror comedy is slated to hit theatres on November 12.

Additionally, Triptii will star opposite Siddhant Chaturvedi in Shazia Iqbal’s upcoming romance drama Dhadak 2, slated to arrive in cinemas on November 22.

Avinash, on the other hand, last appeared in Kunal Kemmu’s directorial debut Madgaon Express alongside Divyenndu, Pratik Gandhi, Nora Fatehi, Upendra Limaye and Chhaya Kadam.
