Made almost after 10 years of her debut in cinema, in the 1966 film Shudhu Ekti Bachchar Supriya Devi starred with Uttam Kumar. Her character, Bijayalakshmi Ray or Jaya, in this romcom, channelled extremely smart and contemporary looks in saris with different hairstyles. Sling bags, the Bombay-cut blouses, large earrings and the 1960s gogo sunglasses made her looks in this film an amalgamation of vintage and modern styles.    “In Shudhu Ekti Bachchar, the almost noodle-strap blouse was called a Bombay-cut blouse during those days. Winged liner, a pronounced pout, gogo frames of the 1960s and a white sari completed the styling and make-up for this reimagined look on Rituparna,” said Rajat and Kaushik.

Supriya Choudhury or Supriya Devi, lovingly known to the Bengali film fraternity as Benudi, was much more than a great actress of her time. She was a style icon who carried herself with admirable grace and won hearts with her warmth and hospitality. This year marks the 90th birth anniversary of the legend. Out of 85 years of her life, she dedicated more than 50 years to her work life in the industry, leaving behind a large body of work with versatile, iconic and inspiring characters. Her style on and off screen always stood out, and her cooking skills are no secret to the world beyond the silver screen. She created a style statement with her bouffant hairstyles.

Rituparna Sengupta, who has worked with Supriya Devi in five films and has shared a close bond with her over the years beyond the sets of their films, remembers the actress fondly. In this exclusive shoot for t2, Rituparna, who has always loved sporting vintage styles, pays tribute to the legendary actress on the occasion of her 90th birth anniversary by recreating the looks of three characters from her films and by sharing her fond memories of spending time with Supriya Devi.
