Tower of God S2 to Suicide Squad Isekai: 8 new anime series to watch in July

A mix of Isekai and dark fantasy, this lineup also includes the upcoming anime adaptation of Tow Ubukata’s novel series Bye Bye, Earth

After offering a host of action-packed anime series for three months, Crunchyroll and Netflix have come up with an exciting lineup of new Isekai and fantasy shows. Here’s a look.

Tower of God Season 2

Tower of God revolves around a young boy named Bam who has lived his entire life trapped underneath a tall and mysterious tower that summons chosen people with the promise of fulfilling their deepest desires. But his life changes when a girl named Rachel becomes his close friend. Bam learns about the outside world from Rachel. He is left devastated when Rachel enters the tower and leaves him alone. Vowing to follow his friend, Bam appears in front of the tower and enters it through a miracle, becoming the first person to ever enter the monument without being chosen. The second season of the series will show an aspiring king of the tower Ja Wangnan meeting the mysterious Viole and embarking on a new journey to pass the 20th floor.

Bye Bye, Earth

A fresh fantasy story adapted from Tow Ubukata’s manga of the same name, Bye Bye, Earth follows Belle Lablac who is the only human being in a world full of anthropomorphic animals. With a deep longing to trace her roots, Belle wields a sword named Rundling and embarks on a journey of self-exploration in order to become a part of the world she was born in. “The fantasy epic of a girl and her sword begins,” reads the tagline of the anime, which will appeal to fans of Made in Abyss and To Your Eternity.

The Imaginary

Directed by Yoshiyuki Momose and animated by Studio Ponoc, The Imaginary centres on Rudger, a young boy born from the imagination of a girl named Amanda Shuffleup. None can see Ruger until the arrival of Mr Bunting, a man who hunts down Imaginaries and is rumoured to even eat them. In order to escape, Rudger needs to find Amanda and make sure she doesn’t forget his existence before Mr Bunting catches him. The anime film is a treat for fans of Matthew Dicks’ 2012 novel Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend.

Wistoria: Wand and Sword

Despite promising his childhood friend that he will become one of the mightiest magicians, Will Serfort struggles with casting even the simplest of spells. To become famous as a Magia Vander, Will needs to start from scratch and kill dungeon monsters to earn credits at Regarden Magical Academy. On top of that, he also needs to prove his sword skills to a professor who never misses a chance to bully him.

Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Season

The Monogatari series revolves around Koyomi Araragi, a high school student who survives a vampire attack and dedicates his life to saving young girls from other supernatural creatures. Fans are in for a delight with the show’s Off & Monster season, a collection of short stories that unfold alongside the main timeline. The new series will follow Araragi finally finishing high school. The story of the girls whom he saved in the previous season will be explored in the upcoming instalment.

Suicide Squad Isekai

Suicide Squad Isekai will follow A.R.G.U.S. head Amanda Waller sending supervillain Harley Quinn and other Suicide Squad members — Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface and King Shark — on a peacekeeping mission to a world filled with blood-thirsty beasts. A joint venture of DC, Warner Bros. Japan and WIT Studio, Suicide Squad Isekai has been written by Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara, who created the 2021 sci-fi anime Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song.

Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World?

The story revolves around a young boy named Kai who witnesses the world suddenly transforming after the hero Sid saves humanity from rival forces. In this new world, Kai sees humanity defeated in the war due to Sid’s absence, with dragons and demons now ruling the land. He becomes a trivial existence to everyone around him until he meets an enigmatic girl named Rinne and decides to turn his fate around. In a world where there is no hint of a saviour, Kai inherits Sid’s sword and embarks on a mission to defeat the enemy races dominating the world.

No Longer Allowed In Another World

Imagine the celebrated Japanese author Osamu Dazai getting yanked into another world where he gains new powers and embarks on a fantastical adventure. A twist on the title of his most famous work No Longer Human, the upcoming Isekai comedy will follow the melancholic author embarking on a journey through a fantasy world where he keeps stumbling upon the perfect places to die. However, he finds a new thrill to live through each adventure.
