Gangubai Kathiawadi actor Shantanu Maheshwari plays a shy dentist in love with Tanya Maniktala’s rebellious vampire Rumi in the latest trailer of Kolkata-set romance-fantasy series Tooth Pari: When Love Bites, dropped by Netflix on Tuesday.

The two-minute-three-second-long trailer begins with Rumi (Tanya Maniktala) visiting dentist Roy’s (Shantanu Maheshwari) clinic to get her broken tooth fixed. The two develop a close friendship and soon start hanging out together in different streets of Kolkata. However, Roy’s world falls apart when he learns that Rumi is a bloodthirsty vampire who could bite him any moment.

While Roy initially tries to keep his distance from Rumi, they two eventually decide to elope and lead a happy life away from ‘cutmundus’, a mystical force of vampires ruled by a ruthless queen (Revathy) who stands against Roy and Rumi’s union. Now the two lovers — one vampire and one human — must fight the odds to stay together.

The trailer also introduces us to a police inspector (Sikandar Kher) on a mission to hunt down vampires and gives us a glimpse of Saswata Chatterjee’s character. The clip ends with Revathi’s character saying “Love always leads to war” as she and Rumi face-off in a mystic battle of vampires.

Sharing the trailer on Twitter, the official page of Netflix wrote, “She was a vampire girl, he was a dentist boy. What could go wrong? Catch Rumi and Roy’s story, in Tooth Pari. Arrives 20th April! 🧛”

The trailer exudes the mystical vibe of Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive mixed with the romantic flavours of the Twilight films and the low-key exploration of the cult of vampires in What We Do In The Shadows.

Created and directed by Pratim Dasgupta, the romantic fantasy thriller series features an ensemble cast of Revathy, Tillotama Shome, Sikandar Kher, Adil Hussain, Saswata Chatterjee, Anindita Bose, Anjan Dutt, Kharaj Mukherjee, Rajatava Dutta, Swaroopa Ghosh, Zarina Wahab and Barun Chanda besides Shantanu and Tanya.

Tooth Pari - When Love Bites will be streaming on Netflix from April 20.
