Actor Tom Holland is to swap Spider-Man for a star-crossed lover when he plays Romeo at Jamie Llyod’s upcoming production Romeo and Juliet for 14 weeks in the West End of London.

On Tuesday, the Duke of York's Theatre announced Tom Holland’s inclusion in the latest take on William Shakespeare’s play with a short teaser. “Violent delights have violent ends,” reads the tagline from the tragic tale set in Verona.

Holland also shared the news of his upcoming stage production on Instagram. Though the actor had previously performed onstage in the West End production of Billy Elliot The Musical in 2008, Romeo and Juliet will mark his first portrayal of a Shakespearean character.

“Tom Holland is one of the greatest, most exciting young actors in the world. It is an honour to welcome him back to the West End,” said Llyod in an official statement issued to the press.

According to West End’s Official website, tickets to the upcoming tragedy of Verona will be available for booking from February 13.

Besides essaying the role of Spiderman in six MCU films, Holland has appeared in movies like Uncharted (2022) and The Devil All the Time (2020). In 2023, the 27-year-old actor headlined Apple TV+’s miniseries The Crowded Room (2023), inspired by Daniel Keyes’s 1981 non-fiction novel The Minds of Billy Milligan.
