Shortly after Tom Cruise stunned spectators with a series of daring stunts at the Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday night, the 62-year-old Hollywood star penned a note congratulating all athletes and thanking Paris for hosting the sporting event this year.

“To all the athletes, I understand and respect your passion, your dedication, your work ethic, to push yourself to the highest level of skill. Congratulations to each of you for what you have achieved; you are an inspiration to all. To the beautiful city of Paris, thank you for hosting this extraordinary event. It has been a privilege to be a part of this iconic sporting tradition,” wrote Cruise on Instagram on Tuesday.

“I am grateful to have been a part of this Olympic moment. I look forward to @la28games,” the actor added.

The post includes pictures from the closing ceremony. A video shows Cruise standing on the famed Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, where the 2028 Olympics will be held.

Actress Octavia Spencer reacted to Cruise’s post. “@tomcruise you never disappoint,” read her comment.

“A moment we’ll never forget,” read the comment from the official handle of LA 2028. Production house Paramount Pictures wrote, “Couldn’t think of anyone better for the Mission.”

At the Olympics closing ceremony, Cruise brought out his inner Ethan Hunt, the iconic character from his Mission: Impossible films. The actor made a dramatic entrance, descending from the top of the massive Stade de France. On his way to the stage, he greeted athletes, received the Olympic flag from star gymnast Simone Biles, and then rode through the streets of Paris on a bike, delivering the flag to a cargo plane bound for Los Angeles. Once in LA, Tom did what he loves most — leapt from a plane and skydived over the Hollywood Hills.

Cruise, who also attended the Olympics opening ceremony, was seen cheering for US gymnast Simone Biles and her team during the women's artistic gymnastics qualification on July 28. Pictures shared by a fan account show the actor and Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav seated together at the arena in France's capital.

On the work front, Cruise is currently filming for Mission Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part Two. The movie is likely to be released in May 2025.

Earlier this year, the Top Gun: Maverick actor announced on social media that he has partnered with Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group to co-produce original and franchise theatrical films starring him in 2024.
