After breaking several records at the box office earlier this year, Tom Cruise-and-Jennifer Connelly-starrer Top Gun: Maverick, which has already reported a worldwide collection worth a whopping $1.5 billion, re-released in Indian theatres last week.
A sequel to Top Gun (1986), the Joseph Kosinski directorial continues to be available in India on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Video.
The aviation-themed film, which was a blockbuster this summer, was hailed as a spirited sequel to the original film and received accolades from the audience as well as film critics..
In Top Gun: Maverick, Cruise reprises his role as the dashing fighter jet pilot who has scant regard for hierarchies and hardly takes orders from his seniors. His unconventional methods of warfare saves the day for the Air Force here too, like the 1986 original. Glen Powell, Miles Teller, Monica Barbaro and Jon Hamm appear in significant roles in this adventure drama.
Top Gun: Maverick has also bagged a handful of nominations for the 80th Golden Globes Awards, slated to be presented on January 10, 2023. It will be competing for the coveted title of Best Motion Picture - Drama against Elvis, Avatar: The Way of Water, Steven Spielberg's semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans and Tar. Lady Gaga, BloodPop and Benjamin Rice have also bagged nominations in the Best Original Song category for the Top Gun: Maverick song Hold My Hand.
