A sequel to the popular anime series Tokyo Revengers is in the works, the makers announced on Sunday, sharing a video of highlights from its previous seasons.
The one-minute-18-second-long video features moments between Takemichi and Mikey from the previous seasons. It begins with the scene where Hinata Tachibana, Takemichi’s middle school girlfriend, dies in a car accident plotted by Kisaki Tetta, following which Takemichi vows to travel back in time to save her.
The video then chronicles Takemichi’s journey from the first episode of the series with the first opening song Cry Baby by Official HIGE DANDISM playing in the background. It concluded with an audio of Mikey requesting Takemichi to save him.
The makers also dropped a new visual showing a wounded Takemichi holding Mikey after the latter requests him to save him.
“TV anime Tokyo Revengers. A sequel is in the works! The sequel production key visual has also been released,” reads the caption alongside the picture shared on X.
Additionally, a Tokyo revengers spin-off series titled Fairy Tale Revengers is in the works to mark the fifth anniversary of the series next year. “Plans are afoot for Fairy Tale Revengers, a chibi gag series in which Tokyo Revengers characters retell classic stories. The first one to be produced will be a new version of the tale of Momotaro,” anime streaming platform Crunchyroll reports.
Tokyo Revengers follows Takemichi Hanagaki, a 26-year-old youth who gets constantly criticised by his younger boss. When Takemichi learns that his middle school girlfriend Hinata was killed by the Tokyo Manji Gang, he experiences a near-death incident, which takes him back 12 years to his teenage days. He takes the opportunity to save his girlfriend and alter his destiny.
The third season of the series, which covered the Tenjiku Arc of the manga by Ken Wakui, ended with Takemichi finally saving Hinata by defeating Kisaki.
The next arc of the manga unfolds the Bonten arc, which is a short arc with only 21 chapters. It is followed by the Three Deities arc and the Kanto Manji arc, which are the final parts of the manga. However, it is not clear whether the sequel will be a full-fledged series covering the remaining arcs.
