Post the world premiere, The Zebras will release theatrically in Los Angeles on September 13. The opening takes place in Laemmle theatres.

"The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is a prestigious event that celebrates the best of Indian cinema while fostering cross-cultural exchange. Premiering The Zebras at IFFM is a significant milestone, providing us with a platform to reach a global audience and engage with film enthusiasts from around the world. IFFM’s inclusive and dynamic atmosphere mirrors Melbourne’s own cultural diversity. The festival’s commitment to showcasing a wide range of films, from mainstream hits to independent gems, aligns perfectly with our vision for The Zebras. By participating in IFFM, we are joining a vibrant community of filmmakers and film lovers who share our passion for storytelling and innovation," said Aneek.

The Zebras: Dark Start explores the intersection of technology and humanity. Set in a not-so-distant future, the film portrays a world where artificial intelligence has seamlessly integrated into everyday life. The narrative follows the journey of its protagonist, portrayed by Sharib Hashmi, who grapples with the moral and ethical dilemmas posed by AI. Priyanka Sarkar and Usha Banerjee add depth and nuance to the film's complex characters.

"Australia’s contribution to cinema is immense and deeply influential. Melbourne, in particular, is the beating heart of this vibrant cinematic culture. Walking through the city, I am constantly reminded of the storied history that has unfolded here — from the early days of filmmaking to the modern era of digital innovation. The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) encapsulates this legacy, standing as a testament to the country’s commitment to the arts. ACMI is more than just a museum; it’s a hub of creativity and inspiration. As I wander through its exhibits, I am struck by the depth and diversity of stories that have been told through Australian cinema. This rich heritage provides a solid foundation for The Zebras, offering a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw upon as we navigate the future of our film," said Aneek.

The film’s title, The Zebras: Dark Start, symbolises the beginning of an uncharted era, much like the unique and unpredictable stripes of a zebra. This metaphor is central to the film’s exploration of the unpredictable consequences of AI on human existence.

"Melbourne’s cultural vibrancy is a source of constant inspiration. The city is a melting pot of artistic expression, from the bold and colourful street art that adorns its laneways to the world-class performances staged at venues like the Melbourne Theatre Company and the National Gallery of Victoria. This dynamic environment fosters creativity and encourages filmmakers to push boundaries and explore new ideas. For The Zebras, Melbourne’s cultural scene offers a fertile ground for growth. Engaging with the city’s diverse and passionate audience allows us to gain valuable insights and feedback, helping us refine our narrative and expand our vision. The city’s commitment to celebrating and nurturing the arts creates a supportive ecosystem that is crucial for the continued development of our film," said Aneek.
