The Witcher just dropped a teaser trailer for Season 3 and it teases bloody battles, fearsome foes and menacing magic for Henry Cavill’s last ride as Geralt of Rivia.

The one-minute-long trailer also announces the dates for the third season, which, like Stranger Things Season 4, will be broken into two volumes. Volume 1 will drop on Netflix on June 29, 2023 with Volume 2 following a month later on July 27, 2023. And, as the Netflix post on Twitter accompanying the teaser reads: “This summer, everything changes.”

“For the first time, I understand real fear,” says Geralt in the opening sequence of the teaser, hinting that Geralt is finally accepting that he feels things. Especially when it comes to Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and Ciri (Freya Allen), who he has now accepted as his destiny.

According to the official summary of Season 3, “As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”

The teaser gives us a glimpse at one of the major threats this season — the Wild Hunt, spectral horsemen from another dimension, who can be seen following a fleeing Ciri.

The third season will be poignant for fans of Cavill, who will be handing over the Witcher medallion to Liam Hemsworth for Season 4.

Back in October, Cavill had announced his exit from the show with a heartfelt post on Instagram. “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find,” Cavill wrote.

June can’t come soon enough!
