Romance, friendship, slice-of-life have long been the staple themes in K-dramas. Once in a while a different show comes that breaks out of all these and treads into completely different territory. One such is our K-Drama pick of the week, All of Us Are Dead.
PLOT POT
A zombie outbreak in a school campus is the premise that the show is built on. The viral outbreak is triggered by a teacher of the school. Zombies wreak havoc on the school, bringing pupils together and driving others apart through their shared anguish and despair. The show revolves around the fear for survival, as the students come across personas they have never seen before.
As they battle the epidemic and rally around one another, it becomes clear how much these people care about one another. These students find each other in the darkest hours with friendship and love. Among the many students, we come across Lee Su-hyeok (Park Solomon) and Choi Nam-ra (Cho Yi-hyun,) two long-time friends who secretly have feelings for one another. Nam-ra gets into a deep trouble that might change the course of things between her and her classmates forever. We also meet Nam On-jo (Park Ji- hoo) and Lee Cheong-san (Chan-Young Yoon), who have been best friends since childhood. While On-jo has a crush on the school’s bad boy, Lee Su-hyeok, she doesn’t realise that her bestie Cheong-san has been in love with her for years. Despite having always gotten bad grades, On-jo begins to develop leadership qualities and urges her friends not to lose hope.
The school sees students turning into fearsome zombies and killing their own classmates as they try to collect food and water for survival. Lee Na-yeon (Lee Yoo-Mi) is one of the less-liked characters as she looks out for herself in order to survive. Her classmates turn against her as they find a hoard of food and supply in a room that she hid in. Unfortunately, she also falls prey to the zombie virus.
As the school fights and kills each other to survive, All Of Us Are Dead keeps the audience hooked to find out what happens next. The show is at its strongest when it explores the dynamics among its many characters.
Season 2 of the show has already been announced and we can’t wait!
