With scenes full of brutal actions perfectly blended with humour, and a story revolving around a poor boy turned devil assassin, Chainsaw Man is the most popular anime series of the year. After becoming the most critically acclaimed manga of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine last year, MAPPA studios — the creators of Jujutsu Kaisen, Kakegurui, and Attack On Titans (Season 4), brought an adaptation of it, making the show stand out for its stunning visuals.

The story revolves around a poor young boy, Denji, who needs to repay the debt of his deceased father. He meets and joins hands with a dog-like chainsaw devil, Pochita, to hunt down devils. He is trapped with all the responsibilities of his father’s debt and joins Yakuza as a Devil Hunter. However, all he dreams of is a peaceful and ordinary life without worries, which Pochita is aware of.

As the story goes on, Yakuza betrays Denji after making a contract with the Zombie Devil and kills him. The little chainsaw devil dog is aware of his dream of living a normal life. He helps Denji in fulfilling his dreams and turns himself into his heart to revive him. Pochita becomes a part of his anatomy and transfers the powers to him. Denji can now transform himself into the Chainsaw Man after pulling a cord on his chest.

After coming back to life, Deji takes down Yazuka. Later, the Public Safety Division team, led by Makima, approaches him to join them. Denji, who turned into a human-devil hybrid, is made a part of the team to assassin the devils.

The entire series follows a human and devil conflict storyline, driving some entertaining and violent action sequences. Chainsaw Man also brings out a satirical dark comedy with several events of devil assassination.

MAPPA studio has produced a fine adaptation of the Shueisha’s Shonen manga, bringing the characters to life with alluring animated visuals. As the anime industry keeps growing, MAPPA keeps bringing some fine works that make for riveting watch.
