What do audiences love more than a crime thriller? Well, of course, a crime thriller set in the hills. And that is exactly what they can expect to get in Kaantaye Kaantaye, the upcoming Zee5 original series. The official teaser of the series promises a murder mystery full of thrilling moments, suspense and intrigue.

Set in the picturesque surrounds of the hills of Darjeeling, the story is about a group of guests staying in Darjeeling’s Hotel Repose. But one among them is a killer who is all set to strike again. With his own family’s life at stake, one of the guests, advocate PK Basu, is determined to seek out the killer before it is too late.

Directed by Joydeep Mukherjee, Kaantaye Kaantaye is expected to be a taut, intense thriller and boasts a star-studded ensemble cast of actors including Saswata Chatterjee, Ananya Chatterjee, Soham Chakraborty, Payel Sarkar and others. Crime, violence, suspense and deceit are the defining moods of the teaser which also hints that the story will have a twist in the end.

The minute-long teaser begins on a portentous note with a terrible car accident. From then onwards, it’s one jump-scare moment after another with a sighting of an apparition, people being grabbed by unseen hands in the forest, a gunshot in the dark, a deathly scream and more, adding to the already spooky atmosphere generated by the cold, dark and misty environment of the hills.

The background music of the teaser, which relies on organic sounds like claps of thunder, sounds made by gusty winds or the ticking of a clock, ringing of bells, gunshots, the striking of a matchstick, and so on, adds to the air of mystery, terror and fear generated by the visuals.

The grand, old and impressive mansion, where most of the action is centred, appears as a powerful presence and is almost a character in the story. Saswata Chatterjee, portraying the role of the elderly advocate, also appears to be a mysterious character. His dialogues, layered with ominous double-meaning, suggest that he is privy to certain secrets that others have no knowledge of.
