As part of its festival season lineup of 10 new offerings spanning multiple genres, OTT platform Hoichoi has recently released the teaser of Nikosh Chaya, an original series which promises to pack in horror, suspense and thrills.

The much-awaited second part of the Bhaduri Moshai series, Nikosh Chaya (meaning shadows from the dark) is a supernatural thriller. It follows the success of Parnashavarir Shaap and like its predecessor features Chiranjeet Chakraborty, Surangana Bandyopadhyay, Arna Mukhopadhyay, Gaurav Chakrabarty and Anindita Bose in pivotal roles. The upcoming season, based on a story by Souvik Chakraborty and directed by Parambrata Chattopadhyay, is expected to take viewers on an even more dangerous and sinister adventure.

Chiranjeet Chakraborty reprises his role as occult knowledge expert Niren Bhaduri who is called in to counter evil and dark forces, who by using the power of the black arts have caused dead spirits to rise in the city of Calcutta. The teaser provides intriguing hints of the mystery, terror and dread that await viewers of Nikosh Chaya. The four friends of Parnashavarir Shaap, Mitul, Amiya, Titash and Pallab, can be again seen portrayed by Surangana, Gaurav, Anindita and Arna respectively.

Beginning with a shot of multiple pyres burning in a crematorium, a chase through a dark forest at night, accompanied by a blood-curdling scream, the one-and-half-minute-long teaser is full of chilling moments that clearly indicate that the series will appeal to those who crave horror mysteries. It also indicates an archetypal clash between the forces of good and evil. Children and adults are seen terrorised by unearthly, invisible spirits that can also assume the shape of human beings.

Its music adds to the suspenseful atmosphere as does the voice of Parambrata Chattopadhyay who narrates the premise of the story as the teaser unfolds. His advice to the audience sounds a sombre warning and heightens the mood of fearful anticipation that is matched by the cautionary words uttered by Bhadhuri Moshai himself in the teaser.

Filled with elements from mythology and occult science, Nikosh Chaya, with its spine-tingling, supernatural twist, premieres on Hoichoi on October 31.
