Vikrant Massey plays a journalist determined to unravel the truth behind the burning of the Sabarmati Express in Gujarat’s Godhra in the teaser of his upcoming film The Sabarmati Report, dropped by the makers on Tuesday.

The teaser begins with Massey’s journalist Shraban Kumar preparing himself to break the news of the Godhra burning incident on television. While reading the teleprompter, he hesitates to call it an “unfortunate accident” at first. He then challenges the notion and firmly states that it was not an accident.

“Paying homage to the 59 innocent people who lost their lives in the Godhra train burning incident 22 years ago, today. Presenting ‘The Sabarmati Report’, in cinemas on 3rd May, 2024,” Massey wrote in the caption alongside the teaser.

On the morning of February 27, 2002, passengers returning from Ayodhya in the Sabarmati Express were burned to death near the Godhra railway station in Gujarat.

The Sabarmati Report will also feature Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra. Directed by Ranjan Chandel and produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V Mohan and Anshul Mohan, the film is slated to release in theatres on May 3.
