Kate Winslet’s chancellor Elena Vernham grapples with politics, romance and the male gaze as she struggles to hold on to her throne amidst a revolution in the official trailer of HBO’s upcoming miniseries The Regime, dropped by the makers on Thursday.
“Anyone who dares insult me or my country shall feel my fury,” says Winslet’s character amidst talks about an impending invasion.
The two-minute-thirteen-second-long trailer begins with the chancellor’s tart replies to her advisors. As per an official synopsis on IMDb, the six-episode series covers a year of Vernham’s rule within the crumbling autocratic regime of a fictional country.
In addition to Winslet and Schoenaerts, the trailer also features Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton and Hugh Grant in key roles.
The Regime is directed by Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs with Will Tracy serving as its writer, executive producer and showrunner. The show will also be backed by Frank Rich, known for the HBO drama series Succession.
The upcoming political drama is slated to premiere on streaming platform Max on March 3.
