After the successful hall run of his film Abar Kanchenjunga, released earlier this year, director Raajhorshee De is all set to release his next in the theatres. On December 5, the director announced his film Mayaa with the official poster launch of the film, exclusively with t2. An adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Mayaa will be a thriller set in the ’90s showing a time period till 2022.
Written by Ebong Ipsita and Raajhorshee De and produced by Debdas Banerjee and Sharmila Banerjee, the film will feature 19 cast members including Rafiath Rashid Mithila, Tnusree C, Richa Sharma, Koneenica Banerjee, Sudipta Chakraborty, Ranieeta Dash, Ratasree Dutta, Devlina Kumar, Sudiptaa Banerjee, Sayantani Guhathakuta, Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Gaurav Chakrabarty, Gourab Chatterjee, Rahul Arunoduoy Banerjee, Anindya Chatterjee, Ishan Mazumder, Rohit Banerjee, Ashim RoyChowdhury and Kan Singh Sodha. Hinting at the release of the film early next year around the month of February, the director said, “It was my toughest film till date but I feel most fortunate that I got the opportunity to work with the best of actors of our industry. It is a very different adaptation. It’s a subversion of Macbeth from a woman’s perspective. In all my films I tried to convince my audience that feminism isn’t about making women stronger. Women are already strong, it’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.” Talking about what inspired him to take up Macbeth as his subject for the big screen, he said, “I was a student of literature. But to be very honest it’s not Macbeth but the witches, and Lady Macbeth that inspired me to adapt Macbeth.
