The second season of Netflix thriller series The Night Agent is in production following the success of its previous instalment, the streamer announced on Monday alongside behind-the-scenes pictures and a video featuring Gabriel Basso.
“THE NIGHT AGENT S2 is officially in production,” the streamer captioned its post.
Basso’s Peter Sutherland, a young FBI agent in the series, sports an off-white shirt and holds a clapperboard in the pictures, revealing the first take for a scene in the second season. In the BTS footage, the actor is surveying highrises from a helicopter.
Netflix has revealed that The Night Agent Season 2 will have 10 episodes and will feature new characters played by Brittany Snow and Teddy Sears. Amanda Warren is joining the cast as Catherine, who trains and prepares night agents for missions, while Luciane Buchanan will reprise her role of Rose Larkin in the new season. Series regulars Arienne Mandi, Louis Herthum and Berto Colon will also return.
The Night Agent follows Peter Sutherland (Basso), who works in the basement of the White House and keeps an eye on a phone that never rings. One day, however, it starts to ring, turning Sutherland’s world upside down as he is sucked into a web of conspiracy that takes him all the way to the Oval Office.
After its 2023 premiere on Netflix, The Night Agent topped Netflix’s English TV List with 168.71 million viewing hours in its first week of release as it went on to trend among the top 10 series in 93 countries.
Showrunner Shawn Ryan credited the cast, writers, directors, crew, and Sony Pictures Television and Netflix for the show’s success. “We couldn’t be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on Season 2 to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans,” he said.
The Night Agent Season 1 ended with Sutherland headed to his first mission as a night agent. His promotion from a low-level FBI agent to a night agent occurred after he successfully unravelled a terrorist conspiracy within the walls of the White House.
