The Night Agent S2 to Sakamoto Days: New shows, movies and anime coming to Netflix in January 2025

The streaming platform’s content slate for January 2025 includes an array of new and returning shows, original movies and anime

Netflix has unveiled its content slate for January 2025, which includes an array of new and returning shows, original movies and anime. Here’s a look.

Returning shows

Among returning favourites are second instalments of The Night Agent, XO, Kitty and The Recruit. The Night Agent, created by Shawn Ryan and adapted from a novel by Matthew Quirk, will mark the return of Gabriel Basso and new high-stakes spy missions. The upcoming instalment is slated to release on January 23. 

Netflix’s teen-romance drama XO, Kitty is also set to be back for a second season on January 16. The series, which follows Kitty, a girl who travels to a South Korean university to surprise her long-distance boyfriend, accumulated 72.1 million hours of viewing within the first week of Season 1 premiere on May 18 last year and appeared in the top 10 list for 90 countries.

Noah Centineo’s spy drama The Recruit will be back with its sequel on January 30. Season 2 of the comedy drama series Mo —starring Mohammed Amer, Omar Elba and Teresa Ruiz— will also drop on January 30. Part 6 of the sitcom series The Upshaws is slated to premiere on January 9. Docudrama Six Nations: Full Contact will hit Netflix on January 29.

Based on a novel by Harlan Coben, Netflix’s upcoming mini series Missing You will hit the streamer on January 1. It will be followed by the release of reality TV series Selling The City and the Western series American Primeval on January 3 and 9, respectively.

Reality television series W.A.G.s To Riches —based on the drama-filled lives of the wives, fiancées, and girlfriends of athletes and rappers— will release on January 22. 

Original films

Diane Morgan will be back as the deadpan documentary maker Philomena Cunk with a new film where she will examine the meaning of life and existence. Titled Cunk on Life, the mockumentary is created by Charlie Brooker and is slated to release on January 2.

The Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx-starrer action comedy Back in Action, directed by Seth Gordon, is set to hit Netflix on January 17.

Anime

Set in the 19th century Meiji era, My Happy Marriage revolves around Miyo, a young woman from an abusive family who is forced into marriage to a seemingly cold and fearsome man. The Cinderella-esque anime series will be back for a second season on January 6.

Sakamoto Days, based on the popular manga series by Yuto Suzuki, will follow the story of legendary ex-hitman Taro Sakamoto who teams up with old comrades to protect his family and lead a peaceful life. It will drop on January 11.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse Season 2 is slated to hit the streamer on January 30.

Documentaries and family-friendly films

Among documentaries, Don’t Die and The Man Who Wants To Live Forever will premiere on January 1, followed by Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action and I Am A Killer Season 6 on January 7 and 8. Family-friendly film Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, which is set to hit UK theatres on December 25, will stream on Netflix from January 3. 

Additionally, hit films like Interstellar, Inception, 13 Going On 30, Hotel Transylvania 1 and 2, Notting Hill and Rush Hour 1-3 will be available to stream on Netflix from January 1 onwards. The Walking Dead and Hereditary will make it to the streamer on January 13 and 15, respectively.
