The new show Uraan presents the journey of two people who come together in love and life to become the winners.
Amidst the vibrant lanes of Calcutta near the Kali temple, where dreams and destinies unfold, lives Pujarini, running her modest shop, offering flowers, garlands, ‘puja dala’ to the temple-goers. Living with her parents and younger siblings, Pujarini dreams of making her business much bigger one day. She always helps people around her and dreams to uplift the lives of her fellow shop owners around that temple by introducing newer technologies and know-how.
However, she often finds herself in trouble caused by the local money lender, which she fights with courage. Maharaj, on the other hand, despite being a brilliant student from a well-to-do family, an accomplished chess player, and a respected tutor who educates for free, spends his life mindlessly. The apple of his father’s eye – Maharaj has a heart of gold, which people, including his own mother and elder brother, fail to see. He is aimless and reluctant to the materialistic aspirations in life. Often misunderstood, particularly by Pujarini on many occasions, Maharaj is that unsung hero, who is yet to be discovered and brought to the right path.
Destiny brings these two opposites together.
Uraan, produced by Surinder Films, sees Maharaj and Pujarini navigate the highs and lows of their journey, striving to soar beyond the constraints of their circumstances. Maharaj is played by actor Pratik Sen while Pujarini is played by Ratnapriya Das. Maharaj’s mother is played by Anjana Basu and Maharaj’s father is played by Sandip Bhattacharya. Maharaj's elder brother is played by Dhruba Jyoti Sarkar.
"Maharaj is a fascinating character for me. He carries himself like a king, but people often label him a thug. In today's world, his royal behaviour doesn't fit, and his loud, aggressive approach to solving problems rubs people the wrong way. However, despite societal perceptions, he was a meritorious student, excelling academically and displaying remarkable intelligence. Despite his intellect and rigid nature, his methods ultimately get the job done. It's intriguing to portray someone whose actions, while effective, are constantly judged as wrong by society," said Prantik.
"Pujarini really hits close to home for me. She's all about simplicity yet has these big dreams, just like I do. Getting into her character feels like second nature. She's all about keeping everyone together and taking care of not just her family, but everyone in the neighbourhood. Playing someone who's open to change and always looking out for others — it's just really rewarding," said Ratnapriya.
Uraan airs Monday-Sunday at 8pm on Star Jalsha.
