Pedro Pascal’s Joel Miller reflects on his past decisions in the latest teaser of the post-apocalyptic drama series The Last of Us Season 2, dropped by Max on Monday.
Season 1 of the series ended with Joel saving Bella Ramsey’s Ellie from a medical procedure that was going to kill her but provide a cure for the fungal infection spreading across the world. In order to save her, Joel killed a lot of people and lied to her about it.
The 24-second-long teaser begins with Catherine O'Hara’s unnamed character asking Joel if he ever hurt Ellie. Subsequent scenes show Ellie screaming and firing a gun after Joel tells Catherine’s character that he never hurt her. “I saved her,” Joel says at the end of the video with a firm conviction.
“I saved her. A sneak peek of Season 2 of the @HBO Original Series #TheLastOfUs, coming in 2025 to Max,” Max wrote alongside the video on X.
In May, first-look photos of the upcoming season were dropped by the streamer on social media. “@pascalispunk and @bellaramsey in #TheLastOfUs Season 2, now in production. Coming to @HBO and @StreamOnMax in 2025,” they captioned their post on Instagram.
One of the pictures shows Pascal’s Joel staring at someone intently, while the other photo features Ramsey’s Ellie holding a gun.
Based on an eponymous video game developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation consoles, the story unfolds two decades after the collapse of civilization. Joel, a resilient survivor, is tasked with escorting Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of a harsh quarantine zone. What starts as a simple assignment evolves into a harsh and emotional journey as they navigate a world overrun by zombies infected with a parasitic fungus.
Returning alongside Pascal and Ramsey are Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Tommy’s wife Maria. The new cast additions include Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord and Danny Ramirez, with Emmy winning-actress Catherine O’Hara appearing as a guest star.
Written by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who are also executive producers for the show, The Last of Us Season 2 will hit Max in 2025.
All nine episodes of the first season of the show are available to stream on JioCinema in India. The second season is also likely to stream on JioCinema for Indian viewers.
