Pedro Pascal’s Joel Miller finds himself in a potentially triggering session with a therapist played by Catherine O'Hara while he recalls his past actions and embarks on a journey of soul-searching in the latest teaser of The Last of Us Season 2.
The teaser, dropped on Thursday, also explores Miller’s changing equation with his young apprentice Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey.
Season 1 of the series ended with Miller saving Ellie from a medical procedure that was going to kill her but provide a cure for the fungal infection spreading across the world. In order to save her, Miller went on a killing spree and lied to her about it.
Set to the track Future Days by Pearl Jam, the two-minute-six-second-long trailer begins with a shot of Pascal’s Miller attending a therapy session with O'Hara. “You can’t heal something unless you say it out loud,” O’Hara says, as scenes showing Joel bonding with Ellie and other characters saving themselves from the apocalypse play on the screen.
The trailer introduces new cast members including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Danny Ramirez as Manny and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac.
Based on an eponymous video game developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation consoles, the story unfolds two decades after the collapse of civilization. Joel Miller, a resilient survivor, is tasked with escorting Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of a harsh quarantine zone. What starts as a simple assignment evolves into a harsh and emotional journey as they navigate a world overrun by zombies infected with a parasitic fungus.
Returning alongside Pascal and Ramsey are Gabriel Luna as Joel’s brother Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Tommy’s wife Maria.
Written by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who are also executive producers for the show, The Last of Us Season 2 will hit Max in 2025.
All nine episodes of the first season of the show are available to stream on JioCinema in India. The second season is also likely to stream on JioCinema for Indian viewers.
