The Kerala Story collects Rs 136 crore nett in 10 days, trumps IB71 & Chatrapathi at the box office

Pathaan, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan are the other Hindi films that crossed Rs 100 crore in 2023

Filmmaker Sudipto Sen’s The Kerala Story, starring Adah Sharma, took only 9 days to become the fourth Hindi film to join the Rs 100-crore club in 2023.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and Salman Khan’s Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan are the other films that achieved this feat.

The Kerala Story released alongside Marvel Studios’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on May 5. But it managed to brush aside competition from the Hollywood biggie by registering more than double of its first week collection.

The Kerala Story collected Rs 81.07 crore nett in its first week, compared to GOTG Vol. 3’s Rs 37.31 crore nett during the same period. It began the second week on a positive note, with a collection of Rs 12.23 crore nett on Friday, followed by Rs 43.25 crore nett over the weekend, taking its total collection to Rs 136 crore nett.

The Kerala Story also eclipsed other Hindi releases this week at the box office. Vidyut Jammwal-starrer spy thriller IB 71, directed by Sankalp Reddy, which reported an opening day collection of Rs 1.67 crore nett on Friday, earned an additional Rs 7.50 crore nett during the weekend. V. V. Vinayak’s Chatrapathi, headlined by Sai Srinivas, earned Rs 2 crore nett during the period.
