After winning hearts with web shows and films, Eken Babu, the lovable, quirky detective, is back with Tungkulung E Eken, which streams on Hoichoi from December 8. The mystery thriller directed by Joydeep Mukherjee centres on Eken Babu (Anirban Chakrabarti) and his two companions played by Suhotra Mukhopadhyay and Somak Ghosh. While on vacation in Tungkulung forest, they are drawn into a murder mystery. Shyamsundar Rana, the local king, requests Eken to investigate. When Shyamsundar is found dead by the railway tracks, Eken unravels a web of suspicion surrounding the inheritance of a valuable diamond and the true motives behind the murder.
As Eken navigates the complexities of relationships, wills, and hidden treasures, he discovers that the key to solving the case lies in a deadly combination of greed, past secrets, and a precious gem with a mysterious history. The jungles of Tungkulung become the backdrop for Eken Babu’s relentless pursuit of the truth, where danger lurks in the shadows, and the final revelation holds the power to expose a decade-old conspiracy. t2 takes a look at the key characters.
ANIRBAN CHAKRABARTI
The endearing investigator is eccentric and quick-witted, and his courage is his armour in a moment of crisis. He gets entangled in such situations at times that can only elicit laughter. Unlike other private eyes, Eken Babu is extremely effervescent, also a connoisseur of food, but this time, he comes across circumstances that set off the inquiry. “Eken Babu is a special figure in my journey. He is very adorable and loveable. We have not seen detectives like Eken Babu before. Eken is not larger than life like the others. He is the guy next door. He loves to eat, talks a lot, and comes up with poor jokes. He is unassuming. At the same time, he is very intelligent, sharp and properly trained. The contrasting characteristics have made him very interesting. Eken Babu is admired by all, from youngsters to the elderly. Eken Babu is never gloomy. He is jovial, always doing something, which connects with the kids as well. Eken is a refreshing change for all. The audience will undoubtedly enjoy this captivating experience,” Anirban had told t2 earlier.
