The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 2 to premiere on Netflix later this month

Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 2 is set to premiere on September 21, the streaming platform announced on Wednesday, sharing a teaser of the comedy chat show.

The announcement comes weeks after Kapil confirmed the return of the show for its second instalment on Independence Day this year.

The teaser dropped by the streamer shows Kapil, Kiku Sharda, Sunil Grover, Krushna Abhishek, Rajiv Thakur and Archana Puran Singh discussing new ideas for the upcoming season of their show. Soon they came up with the idea of turning Shanivaars into Funnyvaars and turned every word in their dialogue starting with ‘Sh’ to ‘F’.

“Fun se aapke Shanivaar ko Funnyvaar banane hum aa rahe hai 21st Feptember se. Get ready to watch The Great Indian Kapil Show har Shanivaar Funnyvaar sirf Netflix par,” the streamer wrote in the caption.

The first season of The Great Indian Kapil Show premiered on March 30 and concluded on June 22. The 13-episode chat show featured celebrity guests like Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Riddhima Kapoor, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Sania Mirza, Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal, Badshah, DIVINE, Diljit Dosanjh, Imtiaz Ali, Parineeti Chopra and the cast of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.

The audience response to the first season of the comedy chat show was moderate. Netflix’s data indicated a decline in viewership following its premiere. The first episode with Ranbir Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni garnered 2.5 million views. In the second week, the number of viewers increased slightly to 2.6 million views.

However, with the third episode’s release, the show dropped to the eighth position, amassing only 1.7 million views. The fourth episode, featuring the Kaushal brothers — Vicky and Sunny — garnered only 1.2 million views, causing the show to slip to no. 8 on Netflix’s Top 10 chart.
