If Ed Sheeran’s debut appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show last week was ‘jhakaas’, Anil Kapoor and Farah Khan on the couch this week sure kept the ‘shape of laughter’ going.
The ninth episode kicked off with a roast fest as the host and his two star guests delivered laugh-out-loud zingers. With Kapil Sharma aspiring to better Anil Kapoor in a spirited version of Bella Ciao from Money Heist, being choreographed by Farah Khan on set, the actor-director duo decideD to turn the tables on the funnyman.
Back at the airport cafe, the audience was welcomed to ‘The Great Indian Anil Show’ by Anil Kapoor, with Farah eyeing Archana Puran Singh’s ROFL chair, much to the amusement of Archana’s husband Parmeet Sethi, making his first appearance on the show. That set the tone for BTSS (behind the scenes, silly!) anecdotes galore – from why Farah calls Anil Kapoor ‘Papaji,’ a nickname that originated on the sets of 1942: A Love Story (1994) thanks to filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, to how Farah was a background dancer to Archana Puran Singh’s lead act in Jalwa (1987)!
The spotlight was on Farah as she revealed how she and ‘Papaji’ would often have morning gossip sessions about their industry colleagues after which Anil Kapoor would switch to his diplomatic self while she would continue the day with her ‘black tongue’, even secretly wishing for the box-office failure of those who have wronged her!
This time, Kapil and his team took a step back, letting the fun guests steal the show – from Farah naming her crush Tom Cruise to an on-the-spot LOL call to ‘sabse kanjoos’ Chunky Panday, from Anil Kapoor’s refusal to age (how he was once offered the role of Sonam Kapoor’s father in a film and his response was, ‘Are you mad? How can I be Sonam’s father?!’) to a happily drunk Farah berating the DJ at home for playing slow-tempo songs and the DJ pointing out those were Ed Sheeran songs being played because Ed Sheeran was in the house!
From Team Kapil, Rajiv Thakur finally got a brief moment to shine thanks to his rapport with Farah, and then the 45-minute episode wrapped up with everyone dancing to one of her iconic choreographed hits, Chaiyya Chaiyya from Dil Se (1998), led this time by the turbo-charged Krushna Abhishek and Kiku Sharda. The episode came full circle, ending as it began, with Kapil taking the mic to sing ‘Bella Ciao’.
Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor are the guests on the next episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show. The stars of the upcoming rom-com Mr. and Mrs. Mahi sure have large shoes to fill.
