If NO is your answer to even three of the above five questions, the fifth episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show on Netflix is total paisa vasool!
The anticipation of listening to never-before-heard anecdotes from a Bollywood icon about a rare personal and professional journey is enough to keep us glued to our screens. And when that happens to be Aamir Khan, the elusive unicorn of Bollywood, then all is really well.
Clocking in at over 60 minutes, Episode 5 finally took us on a trip down memory lane to the golden days of Comedy Nights With Kapil, when weekends meant gathering in front of the TV set to watch our favourite stars baring their hearts while also delivering laughs.
Aamir shared how the TV series, Comedy Nights With Kapil, helped him through a two-year downer by bringing some laughter into his life. Aamir made it clear that his booster-dose brush with the earlier show, during an emotional low, prompted him to make his first appearance on Kapil's show in 11 years.
Kapil Sharma's ability to keep the comedy craft on flight path by just being himself came to the fore yet again. After hitting a few air pockets with the previous episodes, he was back in cruise control with Aamir Khan in the house, or rather at the airport.
Kapil kicked things off with a sketch comedy performance that paid homage to Aamir's iconic filmography. With Sunil Grover, Rajiv Thakur and Kiku Sharda donning costumes and personas from PK, Ghajini and Dangal, they were the fake – and paid! – Aamir Khans on the show.
Aamir's presence injected a much-needed dose of charisma and wit into the show. With his two stunning sisters, Nikhat Khan and Farhat Khan, in the audience, there were sibling swipes and family insights on offer. From tales of a handsome and strict father to a beautiful and straight-talking mother, Nikhat’s ‘Pathaan’ role to Farhat’s acting chops.
And Aamir was at his relaxed, banterful best. Take for example, his cheeky response to Archana Puran Singh's question about his absence from award shows: “Sabse keemti cheez hota hai waqt; uska sahi istemal karna chahiye (Time is precious, so use it wisely).”
Of course, with Kapil in the chair no chat with Aamir would be complete without mentioning the “longest kiss of Indian cinema” from Raja Hindustani. With Kapil giving it a lifesaving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation twist, Aamir could only dissolve in sheepish laughter!
Sunil Grover's return as Engineer Chumbak Mittal made Aamir LOL, while Krushna Abhishek's brief appearance as Air Hostess Mona drew the most endearing line of the episode from Aamir – “ab to dekh lo!”, with reference to his box office dud Laal Singh Chaddha playing on Netflix.
Aamir Khan has brought the mojo back to this version of the Kapil Sharma show, and now the banter baton passes to the Deol Brothers — Bobby and Sunny — this weekend.
