With a torrent of international content on Indian OTT platforms in 2022, it was hard to predict which international films would be enjoyed most by audiences last year. According to the ‘Streaming Originals in India: The 2022 Story’ report released by Ormax Media, The Gray Man (Netflix) and Glass Onion (Netflix) have emerged as the two most-liked international films on OTT by Indian viewers in 2022, seeing off stiff competition across platforms, franchises and genres. A point to be noted is that The Gray Man has had a longer run on the OTT platform than Glass Onion, having released on July 15, 2022. The Knives Out sequel hit Netflix on December 23.

The most-liked metric is assessed by Ormax with the help of a specialised calculation called Ormax Power Rating (OPR), which combines sampling and completion rates along with a variety of other data points to rate a show on a scale of 1 to 100.

Not much to separate The Gray Man and Glass Onion

The Gray Man’s riveting action, with Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas as the formidable lead trio with an impressive cameo by Dhanush, was almost matched step for step by the subversion-prone Glass Onion, where Daniel Craig reprises his role as enigmatic sleuth Benoit Blanc. According to Ormax, Indian audiences loved both films, with The Gray Man narrowly finishing first with an OPR of 70, two points ahead of Glass Onion in second place. The presence of Dhanush in a vital role in The Gray Man might well have given it the edge among Indian viewers.

Prey (Disney+ Hotstar), the latest sci-fi addition to the Predator franchise, also garnered a lot of admiration in India, with an OPR of 65, just ahead of the 63 notched up by The Adam Project, starring Ryan Reynolds and Mark Ruffalo. Zombies 3 (Disney+ Hotstar) closed out the top five with a score of 62, while the rest of the top 10 featured some expected names such as Chris Hemsworth-starrer Spiderhead (Netflix) as well as surprising ones like Sneakerella (Disney+ Hotstar), a musical adaptation of the story of Cinderella. In perhaps the biggest surprise of them all, not a single Marvel film (all on Disney+ Hotstar) made it to Ormax’s list of most-liked international films in 2022.
