The Flash helmer Andy Muschietti is set to direct the upcoming Batman movie Batman: Brave and the Bold, US-based entertainment portal Variety has reported.
The film is one of several new DC Studios titles mapped out by co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran earlier this year as part of their Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters phase, aimed at revamping the DC Universe.
The project is based on the comic series by Grant Morrison, whom Gunn called “exceptionally influential” in the DC Universe in January. The comic book imagines a Bat-family in which Bruce Wayne’s biological son Damian serves as Robin.
Muschietti’s sister and creative partner Barbara will produce the project via production banner Double Dream alongside Gunn and Safran.
Brave and the Bold will mark the first live-action film appearance of the character Robin since Chris O’Donnell played the role alongside George Clooney in the 1997’s Batman and Robin. This film will reportedly exist separately from Robert Pattinson’s The Batman movies.
Additionally, Warner Bros Pictures and Warner Bros Television Group/Max have inked separate multi-year first-look deals with the Muschiettis and their Double Dream banner. Already, the Muschiettis are working on the It prequel series Welcome to Derry for HBO.
Muschietti also helmed another blockbuster, Warner Bros. Discovery’s 2017 horror film It starring Bill Skarsgard. He directed 2019’s It Chapter Two starring Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, Jay Ryan, James Ransone and Andy Bean.
