Raj Chakraborty's upcoming film Babli, starring Abir Chatterjee, Subhashree Ganguly and Sauraseni Maitra, dropped the first song from its soundtrack on social media, sending ripples of delight among fans. Voiced by Bangladeshi singer Minar Rahman, the song Dube achi is a romantic number that expresses the heady feelings associated with being head-over-heels in love.

Based on a novel by Buddhadeb Guha, its teaser released in April revealed Babli's story to be about the unexpected love affair between a smart, athletic Abhi (Abir) and the shy Babli (Subhashree), who were shown travelling across the picturesque hills of Manipur in a sports vehicle driven by Abhi.

Dube achi begins with similar visuals, with the duo enjoying the surrounding natural beauty and each other's company. However, viewers soon discover that the pair are now far apart from each other, with the song being a recollection of the sweet memories of their time spent together. The visuals that follow are all about how the pair are missing each other and imagining that they are with their loved one.

Babli is shown counting days on her calendar and yearning for Abhi as she goes about her daily activities. A health freak, Abhi though busy with his fitness regimen, cannot take his mind off Babli. He imagines that Babli is with him as he does push-ups or plays tennis, only to be brought back to the painful realisation that she is not with him. Yet the lovers cannot stop themselves from indulging in wishful thinking and content themselves with their loved one's imaginary presence as it gives them momentary bliss and makes them feel happy about being in love.

Though lonely and melancholy at being far away from the one they love, they treasure their memories of the past and hold close to their heart the mementoes that remind them of the other. Instead of languishing in love, they celebrate their love and wait in the hope of being reunited with them. The song ends with a visual of Abhi arriving at a beautifully decked-up Babli's home with a present and a bouquet of flowers, with the promise of a passionate reunion between the two lovers.

The youthful voice of the singer, with its distinct Latin intonation and rhythms, heighten the song's lovelorn quality and its articulation of the emotions of a lover pining for his loved one. Penned by Subrata Barishwala and with music by Indraadip Dasgupta, this song sets the mood for a purely romantic film that rom-com addicts will wait to watch when it hits theatres in August.
