The new KLIKK mega series Barujjye Family is set in the cosy two-bedroom flat of the Banerjee family. Each episode is a funny take on their everyday social and family issues. Bidhan and Kalyani Banerjee, married for 34 years, are the senior couple of the house. Kalyani, a big fan of Rabindranath Tagore, is the bossy one, while her husband Bidhan’s stingy ways often annoy her. Their older son, Arun, works in the corporate world and seems to be the only sane one in the family. His wife, Simran, comes from a traditional Punjabi background. Her cultural differences don’t sit well with Kalyani.

Their 10-year-old daughter, Gurkiran, is a vlogger and adored by everyone. There’s Barun, or Barry, the youngest son and Kalyani’s favourite. He fancies himself as a rapper, but has no real job. Each episode presents a new problem that gets resolved by the end, giving viewers fresh and entertaining stories every week.

“In gloomy climes, many a time we forget to de-stress and laugh. This is a heartwarming effort to bring back those lighter moments and laughter in our lives. Our writer Sanjay Bhattacharya and creative producer Santanu Chatterjee, have ensured that our audiences will laugh out loud at every situation in this mega series. KLIKK has always been at the forefront of pioneering initiatives in the web horizon with its wide gamut of entertaining content. This time it’s yet another innovative initiative with a mega series, that will tickle your funny bone. All kinds of stress and tensions are bound to dissipate with the laughter gags when you watch Barujjye Family,” said Sumalya Bhattacharya, director.

“While we had a lot of pressure at work, we had a lot of fun on the floor and even outside the purview of facing the camera. The environs were truly that of one big family. Having known and worked with our director Sumalya Bhattacharya right from the early years of his career, to having worked with Sudipa Bose for several years and previously worked with Deepanjan ‘Jack’ Bhattacharya and Swarnakamal Jowardar too, there was a very strong bonding and comfort level with all the talented co-actors. Bhattacharya’s brilliant screenplay, along with Santanu Chatterjee’s involvement, has evolved into a truly funny comedy landscape on screen. I have worked for several years on television and the big screen, and I’d say comedy as a genre has widespread acceptance. This mega series format on the web platform will usher in a new horizon of exciting possibilities. My character Bidhan Banerjee is the head of the family, though scared of his strong-minded stern wife. The hapless and hilarious moments have translated rather well in the episodes that we have shot. I’m eagerly waiting for the curtain raiser reveal,” said Rohit Mukherjee.

“It’s always great to work with a clear-headed conceptually driven director and team. When we first heard the episodes of the script at the KLIKK office, we had laughed our heads off, having ingested the sheer hilarity of the content. Barujjye Family, the name itself has an inherent fun element ring to it. I’ve played an on-stage son of Sudipa Bose earlier and the rest of the cast are all old friends and colleagues, one has worked with, in the industry. Playing her and Rohit Mukherjee’s eldest son Arun Banerjee was a very interesting arc. Arun is the only sensible and sane family member and I had a great, laughter-riddled chemistry with Sweta, who essays the character Simran Kaur Banerjee. Swarnakamal Jowardar and Rii Sen too are old friends, who one has loved working with. There are myriad funny crises the family gets into, and eventually solving them brings around unbridled laughter. We all literally had a gala fun time while filming this mega series and I’m sure we will be able to entertain the audiences thoroughly every week for the months ahead. In these times of despair and gloom all around us, we would sincerely want our audiences to enjoy these episodic slices of life, with healthy laughter,” said Deepanjan ‘Jack’ Bhattacharya.

“I wish I had met such an awesome, fun-loving cast and warm production house earlier in my career. Deepanjan ‘Jack’ Bhattacharya, who plays my husband Arun Banerjee, is an old friend, and we play an on-screen couple who have an adorable young daughter Gurkiran, who’s an avid vlogger. I have been anchoring and hosting events for years, and the transition to acting in such an interesting character was nothing short of a super experience. Being a UP-ite, married in a Marwari household, and playing an exuberant Punjabi wife in a Bengali household, was fun. Our director had asked me to maintain my natural bubbly exuberant persona while essaying Simran Kaur Banerjee,” said Sweta Tewari.

“KLIKK has keenly taken pioneering initiatives in every aspect of providing holistic entertainment on the web platform. Be it at the scripting stage, production mounting, exotic outdoor locations planning, casting innovations or even indoor set conceptualisation. We had introduced a mini series format a few years ago. Now, we are presenting a very interesting innovation in a ‘Mega Series’ format. One episode each week, which will continue every week in the forthcoming months. After successfully launching several intriguing thrillers which have won widespread audience adulation, family dramedy is a genre we wanted to explore for a while. Sumalya is an experienced veteran entertainment content curator having directed and worked in multiple popular mega serials. Together with Santanu Chatterjee and screenplay and dialogue writer Sanjay Bhattacharya, he brings forth a freshly packaged format of a mixed bag of cultural milieu-infused family drama in a comedy avatar. This promises to be a whiff of fresh air, a happiness-inducing stress buster and delves into the lighter slices of life in the journey of the intriguing Banerjee family. We are keenly looking forward to launch this wholesome content,” said Niraj Tantiya, director, KLIKK.

The mega series is produced by Films and Frames.
