The upcoming movie Shastri — starring Mithun Chakraborty, Debasree Roy, Soham, Sauraseni Maitra, Saswata Chatterjee, Koushik Sen, Anirban Chakraborti, and Rajatava Dutta — is all set to hit the theatres this Durga Puja.

Directed by Pathikrit Basu, Shastri, produced by Soham’s Entertainment and Surinder Films, follows Porimol, a man from a humble background, who slogs in a factory to earn a simple livelihood for himself and his family. But despite his many difficulties, he can’t stop buying lottery tickets and going to astrologers in the hope that one day his luck will turn. Shastri is an exploration of family, fate and life itself.

Mithun has two looks in the film. One is that of a struggling man who is at odds with reality. He is a simpleton who is bullied and oppressed. He belongs to the working class. When he transforms into Shastri, he is able to exact his revenge on his wrongdoers.

Shastri also marks Mithun Chakraborty and Debashree Roy’s collaboration after 16 years. “Shooting with Mithunda is always great, he is like family to me. We were paired together in this film after quite a long time. The audience used to love our jodi once, and I hope they will show us the same love,” said Debasree Roy.

Talking about his character and the film, Soham said: “My character is an astrophysicist by profession. He’s against those who misinterpret astrology and promote superstition.”
