The new film Awprokashito, which is running in theatres now, is a thriller that revolves around controversial author Amit Dutta, criticised by readers for allegedly publishing others’ works under his own name and hiding a brutal crime behind his fame and wealth. To defend himself against these allegations, Dutta gets involved in various disputes, altercations, and even a run-in with the police.
His former wife is also allegedly implicated in a media conspiracy against him. To counter this, Dutta decides to publish his autobiography with the help of a novice journalist. Through these interviews, he recounts his struggles, fame, and achievements. However, Dutta is suddenly arrested on charges of murder, and his autobiography is released, revealing him in a negative light. The media and public react strongly, and the journalist’s motives come into question. Dutta faces life imprisonment.
Starring Joy Sengupta, Aryan Bhowmik, Debleena Dutt, Lama Halder, Rana Basu Thakur and Budhadev Bhattacharya, Awprokashito has been produced by Swarnali Entertainment.
“When Aprokashito was offered to me, I was intrigued by the audacious nature of the imagination of writer-director Soham Acharya, where he moves away from day-to-day realism and tries to explore a very self-obsessed and completely amoral character of a writer, who takes the saying, ‘Truth is stranger than fiction’, to a different level, where truth is provoked and manipulated to create fiction. All for one purpose — a crazed passion for achieving a twisted fame, as a writer. To have one’s name on everyone’s lips and every award plaque,” said Joy.
“As the name suggests, there is a fair element of unrevealed truth in each of the characters I have framed. Every character has a unique arc aligned to a distinctive story. Things get intense when the shades of each character come together to either protect or defend the criminal in this story. Honestly, as a debutant director, I hadn’t expected to have such a good working experience like this,” said director Soham Acharya.
“I feel emotional since our film Awprokashito is now a reality on the big screen. Portraying a character who embarks on a mission of psychological warfare of sorts, was a tremendously intriguing experience. In no way could I have asked for a more passionate team to execute this beautiful collective project. We genuinely hope, if we have your support we can have the courage to make more such films and strive to strike a necessary cord regarding the issue we have addressed in our film. Awprokashito seeks justice for writers, exposing the malpractices of injustice that grip the literary world,” said Aryan.
“Having come from a completely different professional sector, to produce a film wasn’t easy for me. But I feel extremely happy when I see that confidence translated in each character in this story. And especially my director Soham Acharya, who has the potential to convert a scene into magic. In the last few days, while visiting various halls, we were overwhelmed by the spontaneous praise and affection the audience has been giving us. The film is faring well. These are trying times indeed and we are grateful for the audience adulation and support we are getting for our newly released film,” said Swarnali Acharya, producer.
