Russell Crowe plays a troubled actor losing his grip on reality during the shooting of a movie in The Exorcism trailer, released by the makers on Thursday.
Directed by Joshua John Miller, the horror film also features Ryan Simpkins, Chloe Bailey, Sam Worthington, Samantha Mathis and Adam Goldberg in key roles.
The two-minute-24-second long trailer kicks off with Crowe's character, Anthony Miller, uttering the line, “forgive me father, for I have sinned,” setting the ominous tone. We learn that Anthony steps into the shoes of another actor, who faced a personal tragedy, in a horror film. As Anthony immerses himself in the film, odd things start happening around him.
The trailer delves into Miller’s complex relationship with his daughter Lee (Ryan Simpkins), who becomes increasingly concerned about her father's mental state. She discovers he's off his medication and behaving erratically. She seeks the help of a priest to save Anthony.
The Exorcism adds to Crowe's recent repertoire in the horror genre, following his roles in The Pope's Exorcist (2023) and Sleeping Dogs (2024). His co-star Simpkins is known for her work in the Fear Street trilogy for Netflix.
Produced by Bill Block, Kevin Williamson, and Ben Fast under Miramax and Outerbanks Entertainment, The Exorcism is set to hit theaters on June 7.
