A picture of The Elephant Whisperers couple Bomman and Bellie holding the Oscar trophy, shared by the Academy Award-winning documentary’s director Kartiki Gonsalves, is winning hearts on social media.
"It’s been a long four months since we’ve been apart and now I feel like I’m home... @theelephantwhisperers,” Kartiki wrote alongside the picture on Instagram.
The Elephant Whisperers won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short at the 95th Academy Awards this year. It is the first Indian production to bag an Oscar in this category.
Set in the Mudumalai National Park in Tamil Nadu, the documentary depicts the story of a South Indian couple, Bomman and Bellie, who selflessly take care of an orphaned baby elephant Raghu. The couple take great pains to ensure that the injured calf grows into a healthy, adult tusker.
Bomman and Belie have also been felicitated by the chief minister of Tamil Nadu following the Netflix documentary’s Oscar win.
