The sixth and final season of Netflix’s historical drama series The Crown will be divided into two parts — the first instalment releasing on November 16 and the second on December 14 — the streaming platform announced on Monday.
The Crown chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to modern times with an inside look at the royal family.
Netflix shared two posters from the upcoming season on social media along with the release dates. The first poster shows Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) in a turquoise swimsuit and sitting on the edge of a plank by the ocean, while the second poster shows Queen Elizabeth II (Imelda Staunton) in a blue outfit walking alone in a dimly-lit place. “Mark your calendars and make your curtsies, because the final season of The Crown is set to grace our screens 👑,” the streaming platform wrote in the caption.
The Crown’s official page on X (formerly Twitter) also shared a short teaser of the upcoming season on Monday. The 51-second-long clip showcases all the three actresses — Claire Foy, Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton— who have portrayed the different phases of Queen Elizabeth II’s life in the Netflix drama show. While Foy, who played the role in the first two seasons, confidently says, “The Crown is a symbol of permanence,” Colman confesses, “Some portions of our natural selves are always lost.” The focus then shifts to Imelda Staunton’s aged Elizabeth II, who reflects on her life, “But what about the life I put aside? The woman I put aside?”
The final season of The Crown will be centred around the events of the late '90s and early 2000s, following Princess Diana’s death in 1997. The relationship between Prince William and Kate Middleton, who began dating during their college days at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, will also be covered.
