John David Washington’s Joshua is an ex-special forces agent at war against Artificial Intelligence-driven forces to save the human race from extinction in the latest teaser trailer of the upcoming science-fiction thriller The Creator.
Dropped by 20th Century Studios on Wednesday night, the two-minute-24-second-long teaser trailer takes us to a future world where AI and humans battle it out for survival. The protagonist Joshua is introduced as an AI hunter on a mission to find and neutralise the mastermind AI — a force that plans to end humanity and take charge of the world.
But Joshua has to fight an internal conflict when he learns that the AI mastermind is actually a humanoid child. Our hero is now in a tricky situation where he doesn’t know whether to neutralise the humanoid or try to reform it. The teaser trailer gives us a glimpse of a classic AI-gone-wrong sci-fi story with a twist.
“This is a fight for our very existence. #TheCreator arrives in theaters September 29,” 20th Century Fox on Wednesday wrote on Twitter, sharing the teaser trailer.

The trailer pays homage to several sci-fi epics such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Terminator and Blade Runner. The neon visuals and the dark atmosphere also reminds us of recent sci-fi classics including Ex-Machina, Children of Men and Blade Runner 2049. The visuals look stunning in the trailer that promises an epic showdown between men and machines.
The film is helmed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards from a screenplay co-written with Chris Weitz. It also stars Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, Madeleine Yuna Voyles and Allison Janney.
The Creator is slated to arrive in theatres on September 29.
