Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Detective Inspector Jaspreet “Jass” Bhamra interviews suspects as she tries to track down the murderer of a child amid escalating communal tensions in Wycombe in the trailer of Hansal Mehta’s upcoming thriller The Buckingham Murders.

Dropped by production house Balaji Motion Pictures on Tuesday, the two-minute-34-second-long video shows Jass, who has rejoined the police force after the death of her own son, confronting her fears as she seeks to uncover the truth behind the sudden disappearance of Ishpreet Kohli in a park on November 14 —coincidentally, the day Children’s Day is celebrated in India.

When Jass identifies a Muslim teenager, Shaqib Chaudhury, as her prime suspect and has him arrested in connection with Ishpreet's disappearance and murder, tensions flare between the Sikh and Muslim communities in Buckinghamshire.

Jass’s pursuit of the truth leads to unsettling revelations as she decides to interrogate Ishpreet’s adoptive family. However, her colleagues doubt her competence, frequently pointing fingers at her mental health. With the stakes higher than ever, the pressure on Jass to solve the mystery intensifies.

Also starring Ranveer Brar Ash Tandon, Assad Raja, Prabhleen Sandhu, Sanjeev Mehra, Adwoa Akoto and Zain Hussain, The Buckingham Murders is slated to hit theatres on September 13. Its screenplay has been penned by Aseem Arrora, Kashyap Kapoor and Raghav Raj Kakker.

Kareena, who was last seen in Rajesh A. Krishnan’s Crew alongside Tabu and Kriti Sanon, makes her debut as a producer with the murder mystery. The actress is co-producing the film with Ektaa Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under the banners of Balaji Telefilms, Mahana Films and TBM Films.

The Buckingham Murders had its world premiere at the 67th BFI London Film Festival in October 2023.
